URBAN MOODS ~ Pacific Design Center ~ West Hollywood, California
Completed in three distinct stages, the Pacific Design Center arose as a West Hollywood landmark over 4 decades. Designed by Cesar Pelli, the Blue Whale as it is often called because of its long horizontal extraction, was the first building to be completed in 1975. Subsequently, the green building was completed in 1988 and the red building in 2012. As all visitors can attest, the three buildings complement each other beautifully, and each in isolation is an architectural masterpiece. On the other hand, I was most intrigued by the challenge of utilizing limited compositional elements from one building (the blue whale in this instance) and enhancing its contemporary components with selective use of shadow and light to create depth, volume presence and luminosity. It was an honor to pay tribute to one of LA's most iconic buildings.

CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS: As my way of giving back to the inspiring people and amazing places I've been so fortunate to interact with on my journeys as a photographer, 5% of the profits are donated to the following four charitable organizations: 1) Rainforest Alliance; 2) Action Against Hunger International; 3) The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International; and 4) The Tibet Fund.
