BEHIND THE SCENE: Meoto Iwa, or the Married Couple Rocks, are a couple of small rocky stacks in the sea off Futami, Mie, Japan. They are joined by a shimenawa (a heavy rope of rice straw) and are considered sacred by worshippers at the neighboring Futami Okitama Shrine (Futami Okitama Jinja). According to Shinto, the rocks represent the union of the creator of kami, Izanagi and Izanami. The rocks, therefore, celebrate the union in marriage of man and woman. The rope, which weighs over a ton, must be replaced several times a year in a special ceremony. The larger rock, said to be male, has a small torii at its peak. I opted for a long exposure capture to smooth the waters, adding to the mood of the photograph.

Patrons may also direct their donation to the charity of their choice.
PRINTING: Each print comes with a hand-signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. All prints are mounted on black 3/16" Gatorforam, a very rigid, durable and lightweight backing that will not warp. Photographs are printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Pearl. Fujicolor Crystal Archive Pearl Paper represents a real breakthrough in digital printing technology. The paper takes on, as its name claims, a "pearl-like" luster which comes from small pearl-like crystals in the paper. Pearl mica crystals are embedded into the paper and covered with metal oxides (i.e, titanium dioxide). The combination of these crystals along with special coatings yields a paper that generates a unique three-dimensional depth and a wide tonal range, producing prints with a rich textured quality. Have confidence in knowing the inks and papers used to create these works of fine art have been carefully selected to ensure your investment will be enjoyed for generations.
LIMITED EDITION PRINT SIZES: Print sizes (16”x24”, 20”x30”, 24”x36” and 30"x45") are in edition sizes of 25. As editions cross milestones, prices will increase. Once an edition closes, no further printing of that size will be made available nor will new sizes be introduced.
