Its bold architectural design draws you in like a magnet. I wanted to photograph the pier in a completely different light. I’ve always been fascinated by the night’s sky. As we go through our hectic day-to-day routines, it’s a rare moment when we actually stop and take a second to enjoy a good look at the beauty above. My goal was to capture the pier surrounded by a sea of stars dotting the evening sky. For weeks I followed weather reports and studied the earth’s rotation, waiting night after night for when the skies would be crystal clear. When the night finally arrived, the anticipation was palpable. I felt there was a genuine connection between the heavens and earth. I used a two-camera set-up; one for the astrophotography and the other to capture the landscape. Long exposures were required to reveal the true brilliance of the stars and to give a more moody, painterly appearance to the ocean’s surface. I love how the columns draws your eyes towards infinity. Looking through this tunnel is like looking into another world, leaving only our imaginations to create something new and even more beautiful. Throughout the week I saw some absolutely gorgeous fall foliage, but I must say that I was particularly captivated by this waterfall. I love how it stretches so high into the mountains that it nearly touches the sky. Day after day I kept coming back, waiting for softer light from overcast skies. When the light was just right, I opted for a long exposure technique to blur the water, giving the composition that mystical feeling. Imagine a cool, fall morning. The forest had that gentle smell after a rain and there was a calm breeze rustling the leaves. A magical day I will always remember.
