Patterns give us a sense of order in what may otherwise seem like chaos. If you repeat something once or twice it becomes more interesting. If you repeat something many more times, it becomes a pattern and begins to take on a life of its own. Without the limitation of just a single focal point, repetition helps your eye move from point to point, exploring more of the image. Mid-day during a routine work week, I wandered down to one of the Hollywood Metro stations. Not surprisingly, it was nearly deserted in a city where the automobile reigns supreme. I became immediately captivated by the gorgeous architectural elements hidden beneath the streets of Hollywood. The details are just incredible. I chose a black and white print, which best portrays the mood at the time and also adds a bit of character to the composition. The paper takes on, as its name claims, a "pearl-like" luster which comes from small pearl-like crystals in the paper. Pearl mica crystals are embedded into the paper and covered with metal oxides (i.e, titanium dioxide). The combination of these crystals along with special coatings yields a paper that generates a unique three-dimensional depth and a wide tonal range, producing prints with a rich textured quality. Have confidence in knowing the inks and papers used to create these works of fine art have been carefully selected to ensure your investment will be enjoyed for generations. LIMITED EDITION PRINT SIZES: Print sizes (16”x24”, 20”x30”, 24”x36” and 30"x45") are in edition sizes of 25. As editions cross milestones, prices will increase. Pylons jut from the ocean floor, criss-crossing one another and creating a shared, Zen feeling of togetherness and harmony. BEHIND THE SCENE: After spending nearly a week shooting in Kyoto’s densely populated urban center, it was time to head back to nature and explore the tranquil shores of Lake Biwa. The lake is the largest in Japan so it took quite some time to scout out just the right location. I fell in love with the juxtaposition of the lake’s calm waters against the towering mountains in the distance and the peninsula of trees flanking on the left. Once the perfect perspective had been found, it was now just a waiting game for Mother Nature to offer up a little help in the sky. There was nearly two feet of snow on the ground and nothing but blue skies above. Blue skies make great postcards, but they leave much to be desired in terms of character and mood. Lucky for me, a storm was quickly moving in from the east and with it, a bevy of textured clouds began to fill the sky. I opted for a long exposure which both calms the water’s surface and creates a more dynamic look in the sky. As I clicked the shutter on my camera, it felt like I had captured a very special Zen moment in time.
